Clariant to showcase latest healthcare packaging solutions at CPhI China 2018 exhibition

● Clariant will return to the leading pharmaceutical solutions exhibition in China on June 20-22, in Shanghai
● Clariant's full lineup of packaging solutions dedicated to the healthcare industry will be on display
● The new HAT® in SNAP packaging vial combines benefits of HAT® IN and HAT® SNAP to offer more handy packaging choices

Shanghai, June 13, 2018 — Clariant, a world-leader in specialty chemicals, will participate again this year in the CPhI China exhibition —the leading pharmaceutical ingredients show in China and the wider Asia Pacific region — which will be held on June 20-22, 2018 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) in Shanghai. Included in Clariant’s full lineup of packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical industry on display will be the new Handy Active Tubes (HAT®) in SNAP packaging, which combines the advantages of the HAT® IN line with the functionality of snap-on lidded packaging to provide customers with more versatility.

Under the healthcare policy directions outlined in China’s 13th Five-Year Plan for 2016-2020, which pledges improvements in basic healthcare for the whole of the Chinese population, total expenditure on healthcare is expected to increase from 6.0% of the country’s GDP in 2015 to 6.5%-7.0% by 2020.Likewise, as the quality standard continues to rise in the pharmaceutical industry, stronger demand for more versatile and innovative packaging solutions has emerged, such as those that Clariant will be showcasing during the forthcoming CPhI China exhibition.

Introducing the HAT® in SNAP containers
The new HAT® in SNAP packaging vials, which will be introduced during the show, effectively combines the advantages of the HAT® IN and HAT® SNAP solutions from Clariant to bring to its customers another choice in handy pharmaceutical packaging. Clariant's HAT® products are durable, rigid containers with a convenient flip-top cap and built-in desiccant. The HAT® line of flip-top tubes is an ideal vial for diagnostic test strips, as well as pharmaceuticals such as effervescent tablets, chewables and lozenges.

By leveraging Clariant's ADP® (Advanced Desiccant Polymer) technology that combines the advantages of traditional thermoplastic polymers with the benefits of advanced moisture protection, HAT® products can be embedded with the desiccant directly into the plastic, adsorbing excess humidity and creating a dry package environment.

Moreover, an additional production mold means the popular HAT® SNAP solution’s production capacity has increased to meet the growing market demand from the region.

Local availability, international quality
Also showcased during CPhI China will be Clariant's EQ-PAK packets and EQ-CAN canisters, two specially engineered sorbents that can simultaneously act as both humectants (desorbers) and desiccants (adsorbers), maintaining a specified equilibrium relative humidity (ERH) inside product packaging. These products are critical in the storage of certain drugs that require a constant humidity.

The EQ line complies with all relevant U.S. FDA regulations for contact with food and drugs. It is available in both packets and canisters to suit a variety of applications. Packets are ideal for DPIs or other flexible packaging applications, whereas canisters are conducive to high speed automatic insertion into pharmaceutical bottles.

Adding to the lineup of Clariant’s packaging material functionalities is the ISO 15378 certification issued to Clariant's plant in Dongguan, China, which produces a full portfolio of desiccant packets both for regional Asia-Pacific healthcare markets and for export to the Americas and Europe. The certification specifies requirements for current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and a quality management system (QMS) for manufacturers of primary packaging materials for pharmaceuticals. It demonstrates the site's compliance with the specific regulations and standards that apply to packaging materials used in pharmaceutical applications.

"Clariant has succeeded in leveraging our established technological advances in active materials, coupled with innovative plastic processing and functional design, to provide our customers in the pharmaceutical market in the region with an exciting lineup of functional and versatile packaging solutions with good local availability and customer support," said Albert Zhao, Head of Sales Asia Pacific and Operation China, Clariant Healthcare Packaging.

During the 3-day CPhI China 2018 exhibition on June 20-22, 2018, Clariant will showcase its full portfolio of packaging solutions at booth N5F17. Its team of technical and customer service experts will be onhand at their booth to explain details of their products and help visitors find the best solutions to fill their needs.
